Building sports brand

THIS YEAR has been designated the year of sports and the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) has added a number of new events to their yearly calendar.

At the press launch to announce the details at the BTMI headquarters, chief executive officer William “Billy” Griffith said that following last year’s increased visitor arrivals and spending, the aim was to encourage visitors to get engaged and immersed in all the island had to offer.

Therefore, he explained that within the year of sports they were exploring various sporting avenues which would attract visitors.

“So the year of sports initiative is the result of months of research and talks with our industry partners about the feedback they received from these markets and what we found was that Barbados had several sporting streets that are not exploited,” he said.
