THE ONCE HEAVILY criticised Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC) is earning its keep.
The fortunes of the island’s major conference centre were revealed in the Senate yesterday during a debate on a resolution to approve the guarantee by the Minister of Finance the principal sum of $17.62 million and interest to be borrowed by the Barbados Conference Services Limited from First Citizens Bank.
The ten-year loan is to assist with the outfitting of new offices at the LESC.
Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, who introduced the item, said the LESC had been used for events other than conferences. Some space would now be rented to Government offices, including the Prime Minister’s Office and Cabinet office, Ministry of the Civil Service, Barbados Government Information Service, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Tourism.
