Chambers, Weekes triumph

HANNAH CHAMBERS’ stock continues to soar.

Barbados’ top-ranked Under-14 player has won her latest junior title, capturing yesterday’s girls’ doubles after barely falling short in the singles final of the C.O. Williams Barbados International Junior Tennis Tournament.

Playing at the Yacht Club, Chambers paired with fellow Bajan Chloe Weekes to beat top-seeded Guatemalan Deborah Dominguez and Bahamas No. 1 Emma Weetch 6-4, 6-4 in a closely contested title match.

It served as sweet revenge for the talented St Michael School student,
who went down 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(2) to Dominguez in a three-hour thriller just hours earlier.

Chambers actually started well in that singles match, storming out to a 3-0 lead before losing concentration following five foot faults. (JM)
