BARBADIANS WHO BENEFIT from free education and go to work overseas should not escape the tax net of the Barbados Revenue Authority.

This is the view of Dr Ronnie Yearwood, himself an overseas based professional, who sees this as one way Barbados could benefit financially from the island’s “brain drain”.

Yearwood admitted that the “brain drain” phenomenon, though not new, was worrying. He, himself, had benefited from Government’s investment in education up to university level and now works as an attorney between Britain and the British Virgin Islands.

Speaking on the topic Ideas For A New Politics: Governance and Truth at the Grand Salle, Tom Adams Financial Centre on Thursday night, Yearwood quoted from unnamed studies he said showed that over 80 per cent of tertiary educated Barbadians lived in developed countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom.
