SENIOR MEDICAL OFFICER Dr Karen Broome has warned the public to get vaccinated only through the Ministry of Health and programmes administered by internationally accepted organisations.

She said it was possible to cut down on the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases in Barbados, but the shots should only be delivered by representatives of organisations such as the United Nations Children’s Fund, the World Health Organisation, Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO) and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Millions of dollars are invested every year in vaccine research and development to ensure that only safe, reliable and effective vaccines are delivered to children and adults worldwide. And parents, you are urged to ensure that you are guided only by reputable vaccine authorities . . . , ” she said during a service at the People’s Cathedral yesterday to mark Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA).
