NEW Barbados Cycling Union (BCU) president Charles Lynch says he is heartened by the renewed interest in the sport and expects close to 50 riders to line up for this weekend’s road race which starts in Graeme Hall, Christ Church.
It is the third race since the new executive took over in February, following races at Bushy Park and the Garrison and each time, registration has grown.
“We had 27 riders at Bushy Park, 37 for the criterium on the Garrison and I expect close to 50 for the point to point race which starts at Graeme Hall at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning.
“I am really heartened by the resurgence in the sport. When we compare the cyclists that are registered now to what we had before, there is actually a new crop of riders that are coming through. The numbers are building. I am very encouraged,” Lynch said. (MK)
