THE BARBADOS WORKERS’ UNION (BWU) has stepped into a contractual dispute involving Rotherley Construction and its workers.
The issue, which the DAILY NATION understands has been long-standing, came to a head yesterday morning when around 100 workers from various job sites gathered at the company’s Warrens, St Michael office to discuss concerns surrounding contracts the workers had been asked to sign which they said appeared to change some of their job descriptions.
Shop steward Matthew Gill said while there was no strike, it was a contentious issue.
“It’s a small matter between the company and the workers in terms of job contracts and job descriptions. The workers are having a problem with it and that is what we are dealing with now. It’s not a work stoppage at all; it’s just to get the matter dealt with, which I think should be sorted out today,” he said. (CA)
