Horace Burrell passes

KINGSTON – Captain Horace Burrell, President of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), has died.

He passed away on Tuesday here at the age 67 after ailing for some time.

Captain Burrell was instrumental in leading the Reggae Boyz to the 1998 World Cup in France.

He was also the founder of the Jamaican restaurant chain The Captain’s Bakery and Grill and Captain’s Aviation Services which he founded in 1995 and 2008, respectively.

A statement from Cricket West Indies president Dave Cameron lauded Burrell’s contribution to football.

“Jamaica’s football made an indelible mark on the world in 1998 – Captain Burrell and his team lead that journey. We acknowledge his tremendous efforts to develop and grow the sport, not just in Jamaica, but in the Caribbean region. He stayed close to cricket and always had tips to share. His contribution will always be remembered. The cricket fraternity offers condolences to his entire family.” (CMC/PR)
