THE CROP OVER Visual Arts Festival gives prominence to the visual arts and adds an important dimension to an event dominated by music.
This was the message from Acting Governor of the Central Bank, Cleviston Haynes, as he addressed the opening of the 23rd edition of the event on Sunday at the Grande Salle, Tom Adams Financial Centre, The City.
Haynes praised the artists for their contributions and called for them to be supported, while reaffirming the Central Bank’s commitment to sponsoring the visual arts festival which runs until August 5.
He said the bank “has always maintained a profound interest in promoting Barbados’ artistic capabilities, while recognising their economic potential, be it the visual, literary, or performing arts”. He congratulated the young and older artists before an audience that included Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley, and chief executive officer of the National Cultural Foundation Cranston Browne.
