FRUSTRATED TEACHERS are challenging what they are calling “a new reign of terror” that left them with reduced pay slips on Monday.
It comes in the form of a court battle between the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) and the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education. The matter is being heard before Justice Pamela Beckles in the No. 8 Supreme Court.
Teachers who are members of the BSTU had their pay docked after attending the March For Respect rally in The City in April held by the union during school hours.
Attorney for the union, Gregory Nicholls, is claiming that the permanent secretary does not have the authority in law to abate the salaries. (TKS)
