A BURGLAR ATTEMPTED to strangle himself in court yesterday using a shoe lace, but was quickly pounced upon by officers.

Repeat offender Shamar Renaldo Welch, alias “Sammy”, who was also the subject of a recent wanted man bulletin, had protested against being sent to prison when he appeared on two theft charges. He said he wanted to kill himself.

Police apprehended him last Saturday at Yearwood Land, Black Rock, St Michael, and Welch appeared yesterday in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to two theft charges.

From the time the handcuffed 28-year-old, of Rockhampton Road, Grazettes, St Michael, entered the courtroom, he complained about his arrest, even interrupting the court with his loud griping. (TKS)
