A FORMER UNION BOSS has raised a red flag over letters reportedly issued by the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) suggesting that parents can claim for only two children.
While not going into details while addressing the Senate yesterday, former general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Senator Sir Roy Trotman, said the revenue collection agency was reportedly advising parents “they may be able only to get two children” and access the traditional benefits.
“That is the instruction . . . and there may be an error . . . but people have got correspondence to that effect. And I am wondering if the legislation permits a person to . . . say I am not going to give you maternity leave,” he told the Senate yesterday during debate on the National Insurance and Social Security (Amendment) Bill 2017.
