SPRINTERS JAQUONE HOYTE and Tristan Evelyn came up short finishing just outside the medals at the XIX Pan American Junior Track and Field Championships at the Chan Chan Stadium in Peru on Friday night.
After winning his 100 metres men’s heat with the fastest qualifying time of 10.48 seconds, Hoyte was much slower in the final, finishing fourth in 10.60 seconds.
The race was won by University of Southern California freshman Tarrik Brock of the United States in 10.45 seconds. Brazil’s Paulo Camilo (10.46) and Felipe Bardi (10.47) got the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Evelyn was narrowly pipped for a bronze medal after she also finished fourth in the women’s 100 metres in 11.63 as Trinidad and Tobago’s double CARIFTA Games sprint queen Khalifa St Fort repeated as champion following her success in 2015. (EZS)
