FROM THE PUBLIC to the private sector they marched; from the young to the old they marched; from male to female they marched; from black to white they marched and neither rain nor scorching sun could stop them.
And when the marchers ended up where they began – Queen’s Park – they numbered more than 21 000 strong.
This march came exactly three years after the Barbados Labour Party march against the municipal solid waste tax.
Back then, a fraction of yesterday’s numbers turned out – 5 000 – which was hailed as a victory. But on that occasion Government was initially unmoved. (CA)
