Jalissa - top Teen talent

Even on her knees, Jalissa stood tall and captured the top spot in this year’s Richard Stoute Teen Talent finals.

THE UNASSUMING JALISSA GREAVES pulled out all the stops and emerged the winner of the 2009 Richard Stoute Teen Talent competition.

With two solid performances of I Wanna Dance With Somebody and On My Knees, the 17-year-old gained 775 points to clinch this year's title.

She had the packed Plantation Garden Theatre in St Lawrence, Christ Church, in the palm of her hand on Sunday evening with her energetic interpretation of the Whitney Houston number.

Crowd favourite Kibbibi Greenidge finished a close second, missing out on the No.1 spot by ten points.

She gave the crowd Caught Up In the Rapture and Neither One Of Us, which were both well-appreciated.

Despite being one of the better performers in the competition, Greenidge, also known as the African Princess, lacked the attitude needed to push her to the top, which she could have taken easily.

With just one point separating her and Greenidge, Akerre Alleyne placed third with a strong first-half rendition of I Am Changing and Beyoncé's Listen, both from the musical Dreamgirls.

Lisa Mayers placed fourth with 740 points for her performance of And I Am Telling You and Phantom Of the Opera's Music Of The Night.

Other finalists were Charmaine Bradshaw, Shekerah Hunte, Jabarrie Hurdle, Kisheé Moore, Crystal Jordan, Leah Austin, Sabrina Mayers, Jelesa Mayers, Shadia Marshall, Shenise Marshall and Rashad Welch. (LW)

Get With It : 11/10/2009
Jalissa needs to put a demo tape together and let Evans Rogers hear it or put her profile on YouTube with a compilation of songs so she can get recognition and signed by a label. We recently had Vita Chambers from St. Phillip who is 16 years old, to get in the business and move on up take a page from Rihanna, Shontelle, Hal, Jaiko and Vita - use their method as a stepping stone and get out there. Jalissa is at the age she too can make it. Keep your eyes on the prize. Good luck!
