Supreme Court staff back on the job

Published on: 11/4/2009.

STAFF in the Barbados Supreme Court Complex were back on the job Monday.

Last Friday, some members of staff in the Registration Department, the Law Library and the Court Process Office staged a work stoppage protesting unsanitary conditions on three floors.

Urine was leaking through the roof of one floor, while they was faeces floating on another.

On Monday, while staff still complained of a smell in certain parts of the building, they were back at their work stations.

Once again, attempts to get a comment from Registrar Marva Clarke proved unsuccessful as her secretary said she was not in the office. (HLE)

I may come to this building if I come to Barbados, and if this is the same one as the courtdate is for, then I'd expect coming to fixed problems for this new building!!

accountability : 11/4/2009
why is there no accountability...tax payers hard earned money being spent on substandard work...the relevant authority would have had to inspect this building before turning it over to the tennants...and then the registrar a public servant again being paid by the tax payers is unavaiable for comment. Tax payers should be hoppin mad and be demanding better accountability, too many people in public office with so much self importance and arrogance its a shame they truely forget who is paying them

IT STINKS 11/4/2009 : 11/4/2009
Reading this article and the one on the newly renovated or built jetty,I have to agree with many of the comment this is very substandard work. For a new building these problems should not be happening. Yes! there maybe a few kinks to work out but this is a very BIG STINK. The government has to hold the contractor to their contract. The staff should not even go back in there until the health department goes in to make sure this would not posed a problem on people's health. Tell Ms. Clarke stop hiding and deal with the issue at hand in an expeditious manner. All too often people in charge want to bury their heads in the sand in hopes that the problem will go away. If it was done right the first time this problem would not be happening. Jersey Girl

Dress code for this. : 11/4/2009
This is the brand new complex that the people are ask to dress well and smell nice to enter that is now one big mess and now you can`t get any feed back from the person in charge. The reporter should sit in the office until she comes out of hiding.

registrar should answer : 11/4/2009
isnt it time that the registrar respond. is she deliberately making herself unavailable for comment. if so, then perhaps a comment should be had from someone above her. doesnt she know when you are in those positions you cant take an anti-media approach. Frustrated with Red Tape

Justice : 11/4/2009
Assuming that remedial work has been done and the injustice to staff has been corrected, let's move on. Too many old cases are lagging around, an injustice to the public that needs remedial work also. Retired

Wow!

New Building : 11/4/2009
Could be any amount of problems to cause this to happen, maybe too many staff/visitors using washrooms, Maybe they become blocked somewhere in the system stopping the flow. Just one month and you have this problem, which is worst people not being able to enter the building to conduct business inappropriately dress or the staff having to stop work because of malfunctioning facilities.
