RETIRED Barbados Central Bank Governor Dr Marion Williams has been lauded for her work towards Caribbean integration.

In a video-taped message, Governor of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, Ewart Williams, told the retiring head: "Your belief in and your support for the Caribbean has been an inspiration to me.

"Your role as chairman of the Steering Committee of CARTAC (Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre) was what contributed to making CARTAC the strong regional institution that it is now."

CARTAC is a joint CARICOM initiative with input from the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Development Programme and five other governments and agencies.

"More than most of the governors in the region, you have been a tireless fighter for the Caribbean Centre for Money and Finance (CCMF) and when everybody felt like giving up, you insisted that we continue to work to make CCMF not only survive but to be an even stronger institution," he said.

Responding to tributes at a dinner hosted in her honour by the Central Bank of Barbados at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Dr Williams welcomed the revamping of the CCMF, and called for continued work towards the CARICOM Single Market and Economy. (GC)
