BEWARE of false prophets, warned Pastor Vincent Wood.
In his sermon yesterday No Guessing Game to the Emmanuel Baptist congregation on President Kennedy Drive, Reverend Wood responded to recent predictions that catastrophe would befall Barbados.
"There are no modern day prophets. That is because one, prophecy has been fulfilled, two, prophecy is being fulfilled and three, it is yet to be fulfilled.
"If we have an earthquake tomorrow no prophets can say I said so because the Word of God has already said so," Wood stated.
He challenged those making predictions and who claimed to be prophets to be definite and state exactly when and where these things would happen since in the Book Of Matthew Jesus warned that many would come in his name and lead people astray.
Wood said that one local prophet said that he was sensing that something terrible was going to happen in Barbados but he did not know exactly what it would be.
"Pastors are there to warn against false prophets . . . True prophets declare 'thus saith the Lord,'" said Wood.
He cited 1Kings 13 1 - 10 in the account of King Jeroboam who challenged a prophet from Judah and was stricken with a dried up arm. Prophecy came from God and not from man, he said.
Guessing games
Wood pointed out that many so called prophets were playing a guessing game and when they did that they opened themselves up to ridicule.
"Prophets of God do not play games. They speak the truth because they know who they are representing, the only true and wise God.
"The prophet foretold or informed you of thngs that will occur beforehand . . . There are none of them today," Wood stated. (AC)

If people study they Bible they would be no need to wait on someone to preach what is already prophesy. Christains need to walk with and put trust in the Lord. With him all things are possible

I will note that many of the bloggers are referencing the old testament. Even though it is still relevant for today, folks need to know what the new testament says which is definitely what we should be looking at for the times we are living in. In the New Testament Jesus stated that in the latter days perilous times shall come. We are in those times. However, it will get worse. One cannot deny this. Also regarding prophecy, one does not have to have that gift to realize what is going on around us. He just have to a true believer. When a nation or people move away from the things of God as did the nation of Israel a number of times, God judged them severely. Sad to say, Barbados is getting to that place. We have been caught up in our material goods and are rejecting the things of God. Our children which should be in Sunday school sitting under the word of God are elsewhere on Sundays. Instead of copying the good things from North America, we are adding their vice to ours. Say what you may, God is not please with the spiritual state of our country. If revival does not break out soon, some one will remember this blog.

God will use his chosen people to give a prophetic word. Confirmation comes through man. I will disagree with Rev. Wood because GOD is still using his people who are called by his NAME to warn the people. Come on Sir, I am not taking away anything from you but, be for real. One day is like a thousand years in the eyes of GOD. Its not by our time but everything is in GOD's time. Yes, there are false prophets out there but we have to have that ear to hear from GOD for ourselves. Like I said earlier, GOD will confirm through another individual. Lets get to the Basic, the people neeed to repent and turn to GOD. SALVATION is promise to all of us. GOD do not take pleasure in seeing his people hurt. (WARNING COMES BEFORE DISTRUCTION). The BIBLE says, If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, and turn from their wicked ways, I will heal their land. Also read Deuteronnomy 18: 15-22. Like I said earlier, yes there are false prophets. As a fellow bajan and a man of GOD the people have to get a personal realationship for themselves with GOD. Tradition have to be BROKEN. Lets move forward in the things of GOD Have A Bless DAY Elder D. Puckerin Georgia, USA
BE CAREFUL : 8/10/2009
The bible doesn't say that all prophets will be doomed. If you check in the book of 2kings 3: 1-26 when the world seems to be going hey wire there must be one prophet who is Godly. This kind of prophet does not look for fame but the world knows them for the things they have been doing. In Kenya There must be such prophets but with the rise of fake prophets we have failed to notice them. Go to tanzania and realize the difference, see me and i will issue you with the tickets to tanzania. Kenyans are after money so much thats the reason. False Poppets : 8/10/2009
The Pastor is so very correct. Most of these socalled "prophets" are just looking for attention. They are all fakes trying to get the peoples money. And the succeed in fooling the gullible. How many of us remember that group who predicted doom and gloom some years ago and fled to Costa Rica? Remember what happened? The hurricane hit there and devastated that place. I don't know if any of them survived it. Not one of them can or will ever predict anything positive. It's all doom. Because it brings them the attention they so eagerly crave. But their day will come....."thus saith the Lord".

False Prophets : 8/10/2009
We have so many false prophets in these churches today, it is appalling. This is what Mat. 7:15 tells us about those fellows “Watch out for false prophets! They dress up like sheep, but inside they are wolves who have come to attack you.” Checkout what 1 John 4:1 is telling us “Dear friends, don't believe everyone who claims to have the Spirit of God. Test them all to find out if they really do come from God. Many false prophets have already gone out into the world.” It is so important to know the Word of God especially when it comes to challenging the leaders of the church. Please remember the instructions from Mat. 10:16.
WILL THE REAL PROPHETS STAND UP. : 8/10/2009
Yes, Pastor Wood, prophets, and prophecies have come and gone, so does magicians, psychics, and many that call themselves Pastors, Bishops and Priests, and yes, they will say that they were called. Yes, Pastor Wood, the world is so filled with them and they also, will come and they will go. One of the facts of human nature is that the human condition is so fragile that we will always have the poor among us. I mean the poor in spirit. Those that are seeking answers to their complicated lives. At the same time, we have enlightened people that understand that lies, nonesense, a world where knowledge is increasing at an alarming rate. Such knowledge has given humankind the ability to question, to determine their fate, even to predict events that can prepare us to save ourselves. Yes, we must be inteligent to separate the false from basic common sense. This is where we will always find the strong and the weak, and will even understand how the strong will take advantage of the weak. We see this in most walks of life and the church is not immuned from this. How often we see/hear strong words coming from the airwaves/pulpit to very weak souls that sooner or later seek help somewhere else. That is a great outlet for false prophets. If the weather office sends out a warning that a hurricane is coming, bet who will be the first to take cover. If Pastor this or that tells me that a hurricane is coming tomorrow, how should l react to that warning? It is very likely Pastor will say, he got his message from the Most High. It is easy to understand the verse that says, "many shall come in my/his name." Well, societies the world over are filled with such messengers, and this is one of the factors that have the world so messed up. Thankfully, many people are enlightened about their world today, using knowledge whether it is scientific, or from experience. Common sense must prevail with careful prayers and devotion to one's God. Seek the truth, and love, that the prophecies of the Living God will revealed without fear.
NO WAY : 8/10/2009
I agree with some points of this article but for one to say that the PROPHETS CEASE TO BE TODAY....IS TOTAL FALSE...Be careful that you yourself Pastor Wood are not a false prophet, walking around deceiving people... The prophetic ministry is presently active within the CHURCH. Eph. 4:11
the Bible says differently : 8/10/2009
it is only this ministers opinion that prophets do not exist today. however, the Bible states differently. respectfully i will read for myself and not listen to him, and will not step foot in his church.
WOW : 8/10/2009
I agree with the first comment and would invite Pastor Wood to the USA to receive more teaching on the five fold ministry to the body of Christ-which happens to include Prophets. Yes we have to be aware of false Prophets-but to say that there is no Prophets today-is really an awful, foolish statement to make. body of Christ to understand the role of the Prophet for today's society and encourage the ones that are true to walk in their office without foolishness being said. Those that are false will be exposed- (let the tare and the wheat grow together)and what we would have to do is to pray for them and those that may accept their prophecies. One thing we must realize is where there is GOD-satan will try to present himself-where there is REAL there is also the counterfeit. Learn to recognise the difference. Well said : 8/10/2009
Well said Pastor Wood. I would shake your hand and even give you a kiss. Fancy a person purporting to be a preacher preaching all this palark of doom to hit Barbados. Yet with all the destruction he sees coming, he is staying 'put' on the island. It makes me smile. I wonder why he thinks he would not feel the wrath of God also. The Preacher man needs to stop holding on to the hem of his false prophet friend who thinks he can stop an atomic bomb. All he is doing is listening to his rot and passing it on to God faring people. Both of them will need to help each other legally and beg God for mercy in a little while. I will say no more cause I know the Nation will not print my revelation. We have to trust God for deliverance from false prophets indeed. Retired Civil Servant.
false prophets : 8/10/2009
Pastor wood, the prophetic ministry is very much alive today. Yes there are false prophets and what you say is very true. However, today, we have the five-fold ministry and prophecy is number among them. There are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. God gave the five-fold ministry to to edify the body of Christ. So if a person claims to be a prophet among us. What he/she says must be judged and tested by the word of God. For God's word will come to pass with or without the "thus saith the Lord". God is not limited by "thus" but when it comes out of the mouth of a genuine prophet, watch out!! It will be fullfilled.
Mark 13 v 6 : 8/10/2009
I totally agrre with this pastor. I am sick of hearing or seeing them on tv, radio and the Newspaper claimimg that God told them to say such things when the very Bible warned us against them. I invite readers to check what God said in Dueterrinomy 18 v 21,Jeremiah 14 v 14, Jeremiah 23 v 16, Lamentations 2 v 14 and Matthew 24 v 24 and come tot terms with the fact that there is nothing these so-called prophets can predict about doom and gloom.
