AN OISTINS TOWN CENTRE is still in the works, says Minister of Public Works John Boyce, who is also the parliamentary representative for the area.
Speaking Sunday at the ceremony to rename the Oistins Fish Market the Berinda Cox Fish Market, he said: "I am committed to the continued development of Oistins to include many . . . top-class facilities."
Some of the other improvements he said would include a well-appointed bus terminal, including opportunity for park and ride; facilities for the Constituency Council of Christ Church South; new welfare facilities; more enhanced and better beach facilities; and more areas for vending, including a permanent home for craft and fruit vending.
"Oistins must aim to be a completely sustainable town centre and not the two-day wonder we are accustomed to now.
"The great challenge of course is for Oistins at the same time remain the home for so many Christ Church residents who call her that," he added. (TM)
LEAVE OISTINS ALONE : 11/5/2009
WOW...thank you so much for the 'top class facitlites' provided for the Friday Fish Frys and now let's spread that wonderful success to the rest of Oistins. I always preferred the times before government intervention of Oistins. It had a climate of island ease, real people with real smiles, working hard to make a buck. I recall feeling the heat of flame cook'n my fly'n fish and eating on a slanted picnic table stuck in at the waters edge. You have taken an enviornment created by locals, enjoyed and supported by tourists and want to make it better with a name change, chicken coop shacks with nice paint and the 'can't do that anymore' mentality. Please not another Broad St. YOU JUST DON"T GET IT!

Mike from the UK. The minister was not speaking about the fish market but about the general improvement plant for Oistins. Of course the fish market will always be Oistins, it had no right in the first place being renamed. But makes no sense crying over spill milk now does it?
WHAT'S IN A NAME : 11/4/2009

it is the fish market that was renamed not the area!!!
Still Oistins : 11/4/2009
Take note one and all that the minister John Boyce still refers to the fish market in his statement as Oistins even though he was at the Sunday ceremony to rename the venue "Berinda Cox Fish Market".IT WILL ALWAYS BE OISTINS!
