Fight over PSV driver lands woman in court

USUALLY when the women are fighting, the man over whom they are coming to blows is nowhere around.
But on Wednesday, the subject of two girls' attention, a minibus driver, was not only present when one slapped the other, but was the centre of attention when the two of them appeared in court.
Tashara Sabrina Faye Phillips, 21, of Brighton, Black Rock, St Michael, was in the Bridgetown Traffic Court where she admitted she assaulted 17-year-old Leann Waterman on Tuesday.
Phillips has two children for Corey Pilgrim, while Waterman is pregnant for him. Both stood opposite each other in court.
And so, said Prosecutor Sergeant Glenda Carter, when Phillips got in the bus which Pilgrim was driving and saw Waterman in the front seat, she began to quarrel with Pilgrim.
As she was getting out, she slapped Waterman in her face.
Pilgrim immediately stopped the bus, got out and asked Phillips why she had slapped Waterman. Both of them eventually got back in the bus, which Pilgrim drove to Black Rock Police Station.
However, Phillips continued her fighting ways and it took a number of men who were on board to restrain her. During the struggle, Waterman was hit in her stomach.
But Phillips told the court that Pilgrim, whom she conceded was a good father, turned up at her house professing his love for her and saying "he ain't sure the baby is his".
It was at this point that Magistrate Christopher Birch halted the girl's explanation.
"I think this is a case where the man need to face the consequences," he said as he ordered that Pilgrim be immediately summoned to the court.
Half an hour later when Pilgrim arrived, Phillips picked back up her explanation.
She said to her surprise, when she got in the van, she saw Waterman in the front seat.
"So I start quarrelling but he ain't answer. When he get in Eagle Hall, I was getting off and she fly up and hit me so I slap she," Phillips said.
The girl said it was untrue that Waterman was hit in the stomach and it was more likely she got struck on her foot.
Waterman, when it was her turn, said after Phillips hit her in her eye, she started to "fly off" my hand.
She then got into a scuffle with Phillips' best friend, while Phillips was scuffling with the men on the bus.
"This is not the first time she interfere with me," said Waterman as she listed a number of instances where Phillips went to her job.
Through it all, Pilgrim was standing in the court with his head bowed.
"From Day 1, when she [Phillips] find out I was talking to her [Waterman], she didn't like it. But I don't know why she should be surprise, like she ain't throwing it in my face that she is be with my friends," he said.
"You do realise," Magistrate Christopher Birch told Pilgrim, "that you are going to have to put up with this for years to come.
"I think you need to keep the two young women apart," the magistrate added. "I don't know how you're going to achieve it but. . ."
The magistrate then turned to the young women and said: "There is only one man in the history of this planet that was worth dying for. He," said Magistrate Birch, pointing to Pilgrim, "surely isn't Jesus, yet the two of you are willing to disrupt public transportation over him."
In the end, Magistrate Birch ordered Phillips to compensate Waterman to the tune of $1 500 in three months or spend three months in prison.
The magistrate also placed Phillips on two years' probation.

I don't believe bajan women are still running after mini bus drivers, not lawyers or doctors, but bus drivers. How much money does a bus driver make? I could see running after a rapper or movie star, but not a bus driver. Are bajan women so dependent on men, that a bus driver is still a catch for some women? In what other country is a bus driver a celeb?

I believe in Jesus too..but against ethical protocol of profession does that magistrate want to suggest them a religion in court too..Catholic, Presbyterian, Penecostal, Non-denomination, one man band, Muslim, Hindu, New World Religion, |Freemasons, Eastern star women.. Ya jsut dont involve those prejudices as a professional are you will rob people of an unbiased judgement. In this case it was two poor little girls that being taken advantage of

To poster bajan living abroad, that is not good advise. Seems like you just told on yourself ! married men are just that, married . They are never yours. apparently, you had or do have a married man and things may look rosy for you now but mark my words, it will catch up with you eventually. why not advise the young women to get a trade or something along those lines where they can help themselves and children later in life? Why tell them to do additional wrong (from frying pan into the fire so to speak)It's never wise to mess with married men.

Phillips - 21 for 2, and Waterman 17 and pregnant. Children having children, how sad. Both girls are wasting thier lives having children so young and fighting over a man. These girls should be childless and enjoying life. They need to close their legs and open up their minds and let some wisdom and knowledge come in.

Seems to me that the issue is that this two idiot women, need to grow up, how shameful that they feel its appropriate to behave in such a manner, hopefully the guy concerned is more adult, raises his children as he should and leaves these two fools to get on with it, what a disgrace to women everywhere

My question is Mr. Pilgrim going to give the $1,500 to Ms. Phillips for child support who will then give it to Ms. Waterman as compensation who will then give it back to Mr. Phillips so that there would be no problems between them?

Rather than blame everybody, maybe we could analyze this some more. The first assumptions are that the two women are having sex only for pleasure and are fighting over a man. They might be having sex because they have no work and no alternative and the one who started the fight might be safeguarding a resource. In the same way, don't blame them because they aren't using condoms. Perhaps they want to but the man wants to feel skin on skin and they need his money. Assuming they don't have jobs, why don't they? I don't know but they aren't the only people in Barbados without a job. And they might not be the only people in Barbados who went through an education system that didn't prepare them for anything other than reading books and the kind of work you can get with reading. Some people referred to the way we are condemning all these people because they are PSV drivers and the kind of women who have sex with PSV drivers, implying generally that they are lowlives. We probably learned that in the same education system. I agree that the man would wrap that rascal if he really cared about the women but the older woman considers him a good father. I might want to question what she thinks is a good father but they are her children and who am I to tell her what to do? Why won't he wrap that rascal? Even some of us who thinks he is a lowlife because he has more than one girlfriend still have some idea in our heads of what is a 'real' man and if he were a 'sissy' or worse yet a homosexual we would probabl;y laugh at him. So I suspect many of us share the same idea of what it means to be a man that makes this young man want to have sex without a condom. I am speculating about a lot of things here and i certainly don't want to excuse anybody from the need to be responsible but it would be nice if we could display a little kindness and sympathy and hold off condemning either the women or the PSV driver when we don't know the inside stories.

Us women are stupid when it comes to men after all it was this man who was playing these women but as usual women will fight one anothe a leave the man alone who actually caused the problem. Pilgrim should have finishd the relationship with Philips and then start his relationship with Waterman. Unfortunately men do not think before they do things and this situation will continue to happen the world over.

This is a very unfortunate situation, but all the comments so far seem to have missed the point. There is no evidence that poor Mr Pilgrim is a bad father! On the contrary, Phillips ADMITTED that he is a very good father. The is no evidence that the 'girls' fought for the man, is seems as if one girl assaulted and battered the other!! We always claim to be this egalitarian society, but now we condemn this poor boy because he does not have a classy job, and assume that he is worthless!! That is a sadder critique of the commentators than the participants.

This is a really a sad commentary on our young girls. Is this their only ambition in life, to reproduce for mini bus drivers who really can't offer them anything in terms of upgrading/enhancing their young lives. What a shame! I think Barbados really has to re-look this free education thing if this is the result.

Fight, you sound as though you've been hurt by one or two minibus men...dont hate the player, hate the game. I am a PSV driver and we get lots of stick but there are wider issues in the society that need to be addressed. You assuming that he won't support his children because of the stigma attached...there are bank managers and lawyers who don't spit on their children so what exactly is your point. Wake up Barbados!!!! Using us as a scapegoat to explain the moral decline in our society will not help, trust me. Magistrate Birch should focus on the school girls who fight over male teachers,,,,deal with that to!

Young ladies this man will use you both and move on to the next person and the next, acting as a sperm donor to other women who are silly enough to allow it to happen. He should not carry all the blame though. Haven't you all heard about family planning or HIV/aids. There is no way I would fight over a man. He still has to choose one or the other, but in his case he already has the 2 of you and doesn't have to choose - so what is the point in all of this. If you allow a man to have another woman, why are you fighting the other woman. Women look at it for what it is - the man is at fault. Is this the life that men think is good to have, women fighting over you and it getting to court. Men also need to grow up, this is immature behaviour. You're not an adult because you aren't thinking about the consequences of the women nor the children. You're just plain selfish and have no control over your sexual desires. Watch this space !

why are these two women fighting over a looser, if the woman was in the front seat, what wrong with that, it isnt like its his car, its a van that transport the public. I think these two women should concentrate on getting a job and raising your kids, because this mini bus driver is not going to support them. He is going to play you two and tell lies all along.
