Mix of cultures at Bajan Brew

Published on: 11/3/2009.

HUNDREDS WERE treated to a variety of cultural expressions during a concert entitled A Bajan Brew on Sunday night at Heroes Square, The City.

The presentation followed the Sagicor Life Lighting Ceremony which signalled the beginning of month-long celebrations to mark the island's 43rd Independence anniversary on November 30.

As if to underline the diverse cultures now impacting Barbados, patrons were treated to dances from the Indian and Latin communities in addition to the local artistic fare.

The Olakunde Steel Orchestra won hearts with an uptempo medley, while alternative gospel singer Barry Reid added a unique styling to Amazing Grace.

Mac Fingall, emcee, also connected well with his audience, at one stage engaging them in a medley of traditional gospel songs more popular with the older generation.

Others contributing to a successful evening of entertainment were dramatist Simon Alleyne and supporting cast, singer Tony Grazette, Dance Strides of Barbados, Sing Out Barbados, Philip 7, chart riders Peter Ram, Lil Rick, Salt and RPB.

The parish ambassadors for the 11 parishes were also presented to the crowd. (JS)
