No surprise in West Indies squad

WEST INDIES' CRICKET SELECTORS have named a predictable 15-man squad for the upcoming tour of Australia.

While recalling most of the familiar faces, they have maintained four players who were part of the second-string side when the top players were unavailable.

Batsman Travis Dowlin and fast bowler Gavin Tonge, both of whom made their international debuts against Bangladesh, have been retained, along with all-rounder Darren Sammy and fast bowler Kemar Roach.

Uncapped opening batsman Adrian Barath, who was in line to play his first Test against Bangladesh before the dispute between the West Indies Cricket Board and the West Indies Players Association escalated, is also included in the Chris Gayle-led squad that will play three Tests and a four-day match during the tour that runs from November 18 to December 20.

The squad: Chris Gayle (captain), Adrian Barath, Sulieman Benn, Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin, Brendan Nash, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Darren Sammy, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jerome Taylor, Gavin Tonge. Manager:
Joel Garner. Coach: David Williams. (HG)

Fidel Edwards : 11/3/2009
I am pretty sure on all the announcements heard on radio have indicated that Fidel Edwards is not included because of injury. Michael Anderson

West Indies Squad - 11/3/09 : 11/3/2009
Could somebody explain to us why Fidel Edwards is not included in this Team. If he is ill or unfit at this juncture, don't the selectors owe us, the cricketing public, the common courtsey of so stating? after all, Fidel is the best fast bowler in the West Indies, when he is fit.

Is Fidel Edwards injured or just not good enough to make the team?

congrats selectors : 11/3/2009
it is great to be able to say that the WI selectors did a wonderful job in selecting the team to go down under. Can't say the same about the retainer contracts though. it has to be April's fool day if Floyd Reifer is being given a retainer contract. My God..an average of (9) and 37 years old...come on. Ganga, who don't deserve by any stretch of the imagination to be on the WI team, much less as captain is 30yrs old and averages 24 or so and is an excellent leader...go figure!

Whar about Castro, He is not in the squad. If he was omitted due to injury you should say so. Another example of poor journalism.
