BASSETERRE - Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas has given his strongest hint that he will this week announce the date for the general election in St Kitts and Nevis.
"The date is very very soon despite the frustrations by the opposition, I shall advance to that date and it is very soon," Prime Minister Douglas told the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) in an exclusive interview at the weekend.
"You may have to return in less than a week," he added.
Douglas acknowledged that there were still some electoral challenges pending before the courts, a reference to the move by the main opposition People's Action Movement (PAM) to file two injunctions to prevent the government from making last minute changes to the constituency boundaries in the twin-island Federation.
The Prime Minister said he had been advised that the High Court injunction does not prevent him from complying with his obligations under the St Kitts and Nevis Constitution. (CMC)
