HOSTS Guyana will clash with defending champions Trinidad and Tobago in tomorrow's final of the WICB President's Cup One-Day Tournament.
The Guyanese set up the showdown with their arch-rivals through a workmanlike six-wicket victory over the Combined Campuses And Colleges (CCC) in their day-night cricket semi-final at Providence last night.
Chasing the CCC's modest total of 151, Guyana slipped to 11 for two after a double-strike from pacer Kevin McClean and later 61 for four, but the experienced Test pair of Shivnarine Chanderpaul and captain Ramnaresh Sarwan steered them home with a disciplined unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 91 runs.
Chanderpaul pulled pacer Khismar Catlin for four to finish on exactly 50 not out off 86 balls (4x4, 1x6) while Sarwan, coming in at No. 6 after Narsingh Deonarine fell to off-spinner Ryan Austin for a breezy 31 (2x4, 2x6 off 45 balls), remained unbeaten on 35 as Guyana made 152 for four in 40.3 overs.
Left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh bowled miserly, taking one wicket for just 11 runs in his ten overs while Austin only conceded 20 runs in his ten overs.
But Guyana's victory had been set up by their spinners Royston Crandon (4-25), Davendra Bishoo (3-24) and Veersammy Permaul (2-30), who spun a web around the CCC batsmen, sharing the nine wickets which fell to bowlers after opener Romel Currency was run out for 14.
Trinidadian Kjorn Ottley topscored with 26 off 52 balls while McClean contributed 23 in a 37-run seventh wicket alliance with captain Floyd Reifer, who laboured 32 balls for 13 without hitting a boundary before becoming one of Crandon's four scalps.
