Two hit centuries as Sobers Tourney opens

DOMINICAN Emmanuel Peter and Trinidadian Travis Kareem hit centuries when the Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament bowled off yesterday.

Peter made 105 in Dominica Schools' 136-run victory over Covent Gardens of Guyana at Beckles Road, while Kareem's 108 could not stop Presentation College from going under by 12 runs to last year's losing finalists, The Lodge School, at Brereton.

First-timers Lester Vaughan registered a six-wicket victory over English school Solihull, overtaking their opponents' challenging total of 205 for six while losing only four wickets at Hoytes Village.

But fellow newcomers St Lucy narrowly lost by three runs to former champions Combermere at Crab Hill.
