Sandiford-Garner's vision for SJPP

PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY in the Prime Minister's Office, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, has a vision for the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP).

"I have a vision of SJPP as part of an even larger, amalgamated institution where adequate provision is made for that large number of our children who have an aptitude for technical and vocational work."

At the new expanded institution, she said, she expected to see "standards rising to degree level and the prospectus being widened to include a vast range of non-academic disciplines".

This will require the establishment of a single campus dedicated to technical and vocational education and training, with a range of non-academic disciplines that will not compete with, but complement what is provided at the University of the West Indies. (DS)
