Jamming back
to original route

REVELLERS will be jamming down Spring Garden on the old route this year.

The two-route experiment, which was brought into play for the 2008 carnival, has been abandoned and the Barbados Association of Masqueraders (BAM) is wining in glee.

"It was decided to stick with the original route until we come up with a better route that supports the mas and has the support of the bandleaders. The route that was tried last year, it didn't work the way we had hoped. What we found is that the route wasn't supported by spectators.

"There was an extra strain on the policing of the route, so until we have a better idea in terms of a new route or an alternate, we will stick with the old one," BAM president Roger Millar said.

The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) plans to take up complaints of bands being hurried off the road last Kadooment with police.

"We're seeking to have an audience with the police command to resolve . . . that. I think a recent trip to Trinidad also revealed from some of the revellers there that they thought it went by too hurriedly, so we're going to redress that situation," the NCF's corporate communication specialist Wayne Simmons told Starcom Network.
