Money still being recovered

AFTER A YEAR, $1.097 million from the $1.5 million that went "missing" from the Central Bank of Barbados has been found.

Novaline Brewster, public affairs officer at the bank, revealed this week that 10 970 of the missing $100 notes ($1.097 million) have been recovered.

The bank originally reported that $1.4 million, comprising brand new $100 notes, had disappeared from the top financial institution, but subsequently found another $100 000 missing, to make up a total of $1.5 million. The initial sum was found missing on October 30, 2008.

After an internal investigation, three staff members have been disciplined. A former employee has also appeared in court on charges related to the matter. (SP)
