QEH opens
up morgue

HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT ALLOWED the WEEKEND NATION to photograph the morgue yesterday. Director of Support Services (Acting) Louise Bobb supervised the visit which showed the security measures taken.

There is a security camera surveilling those using the stairs leading to the morgue.

Anyone entering the morgue needs an electronic security pass since the door does not open without one. On the inside, there are two refrigerators facing each other with individual drawers. Each drawer is numbered. The temperature in both refrigerators is set at 38 degrees Fahrenheit.

The morgue attendant assisting Bobb, Cecil Phillips, displayed one of the shroud bags the hospital places the deceased in and opened one of the drawers which he said was usually locked from the outside.

After the tour, all parties exited the morgue.

The WEEKEND NATION team observed however that no electronic key was needed to leave the morgue. Anyone leaving could exit by pressing a switch next to the door. (MR)
