Sewage stench flares up

Another sewage flare up on the South Coast left some people living and working in Worthing, Christ Church choking on the foul stench and the overflowing water.

Manager Communications and Rapid Response at the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) Joy-Ann Haigh, last night apologised to those who have to endure it and promised relief soon from the inconvenience and discomfort.

Last week, there were complaints in the Hastings area about a similar stench from the sewer.

Haigh said they were having a problem with the pump, which would take care of the water overflow, after which the area would be washed down and sanitised. She said they had to source a part for the pump, which arrived yesterday, and once installed it should be up and running in 24 hours. This means that there could still be overflows in the area again today. (YB)
