For the second time in three seasons, ESA Field Pickwick have been demoted from the Barbados Cricket Association’s Elite Division to Division 1.

In the battle of teams struggling to stay up, Home Improvement & Hardware Supplies Maple recorded a resounding victory by 87 runs over Pickwick on the final day of the season yesterday.

Pickwick, given a target of 170 in 62 overs, never negotiated the line and length that were offered and were routed for 84.

The victory earned Maple 16 points and they moved ahead of Pickwick in the standings to finish in eighth place on 69 points, five more than Maple, who went into the last round seven points behind Pickwick.

Off-spinner Ramon Greaves was the inspirational bowler for Maple with four wickets for 29, while left-arm fast bowler Dominic Drakes took three for 12 and pacer Jeremy Marshall two.

Earlier, the home team resumed on 63 for two and progressed to 140 for three before the captain called the declaration. Mario Albert was unbeaten on 42 and Alex Browne 32 not out.

Pickwick lost two wickets with the total on nine after a double strike from Greaves, who bowled Jamal Phillips and had Jade Padmore lbw.

Pickwick relied heavily on Craig St. Hill, who stayed around for 79 minutes and faced 79 balls, but his luck was cut short when he was bowled by Drakes for a topscore of 24.

Captain Rohan Ryan with 13 and Tino Best, 15, were the only other batsmen to reach double figures. (AI)
