Twenty-seven Barbadians, who were stranded in Miami after a planned cruise went belly up, are scheduled to touch down on home soil today.
This was after American Airlines agreed to waive the extra cost to change their tickets, which could have amounted to almost US$200 each in some cases.
This was confirmed by Barbados Consul General in Miami Colin Mayers who, along with his Deputy Gail Thompson and Consul Joseph Hunte, met with the group yesterday.
“Four of the members of the group left [yesterday] morning, while two are remaining to spend time with their family. American Airlines has been very cooperative, and I am very satisfied with the way things have turned out,” he told the DAILY NATION.
Thirty-three passengers were booked to travel on a week-long cruise aboard the Carnival Glory. However, when they arrived in Miami to connect with the cruise liner last Saturday, travel agent Joycelyn Austin-Roberts informed them there would be no cruise as she had not made the full payment.
Austin-Roberts declined to speak to the DAILY NATION yesterday. (RA)
