Barbados is getting top marks for its cruise facilities from the cruise director of Carnival Fascination.

“Barbados is great,” Marcelo Alvarado said aboard the ship in the Bridgetown Port yesterday.

He praised the island’s Internet service and food, saying that they were favourites with the Carnival Fascination crew, which numbered about 850.

Alvarado said he fell in love with the island when he first came here in 2005.

“I love Barbados, I really do. I do have guests who are staying a couple of days in Barbados and they are always happy. They love Barbados. They love the product, they love the beaches, they love to hang out in Barbados.

“From the guests we are bringing on a weekly basis to Barbados, I think the product is well, from the organisation in the Port, with the taxis.”

He added: “I think we have come a long way . . . . The transportation system is perfect. You never have to wait for a taxi and they are friendly, and that is really important for the passengers that we bring.”

Alvarado said the destination offered what his passengers were looking for in the visitor experience.

Close to 200 passengers from Barbados and several countries from which holiday-makers flew here to begin the seven-day Caribbean cruise, boarded the Carnival Fascination yesterday, while about 100 disembarked, ending their cruise.

Alvarado was on the Carnival ship docked in Barbados last year when Hurricane Irma hit Puerto Rico, which was the other Caribbean port of embarkation. (GC)
