“St Leonard's, Parkinson in quarter-final football showdown”


TWO traditional powerhouses in schools football, Pine Hill St Leonard’s and Parkinson Memorial will clash in next week’s  quarter-finals of the Barbados Secondary Schools Football League’s Junior Knockout Competition.

St Leonard’s defeated Combermere 5-2 while Parkinson Memorial overcame a spirited Princess Margaret side 4-2 to set up their showdown.

Parkinson rebounded from a 2-1 half time deficit with a strong second half performance, courtesy goals by Tyrese Connell, Jamarco Harewood and Shawneeko Moore.

Graydon Sealy took care of Deighton Griffith 3-2, but then succumbed to the leaders of Zone 1 Christ Church Foundation. Foundation won 3-1 with two goals from Oshae Grant and a penalty from Kelon Carrington. Thiago Harding scoredfor the losers.

In a North derby, Alexandra hammered Coleridge and Parry 4-0. Aaron Cumberbatch got a brace while Tyrel Reece was also on target and the CP boys also conceded an own goal.

Ellerslie blanked Queen’s College 3-0 with goals from Tyrel Rayside in the 33rd minute, Tanas Thorne (38th) and Cumani Cummins (65th).

Frederick Smith Secondary trounced Lester Vaughan 10-0 and then took care of Alleyne 3-2 to secure their quarter-final berth.

St George Secondary School defeatedSt Winifred’s 3-1 with goals from Tremaine Murrell, Isaiah Harding and Abraham Roachford. The goal scorer for St Winifred’s was the lone female in the match, Caitland Padmore.(PR/EZS)
