“UPP holds first congress”

The United Progressive Party (UPP) held its inaugural annual general meeting and election of officers at Harrison College on Saturday.

During her address re-elected chairman Lynette Eastmond spoke about the role and focus of the UPP.

“We have a duty to our nation and to our people, just as our ancestors felt that they had a duty to us. We are here because we are interested in pushing forward a new revolutionary democracy,” she said.

With no great policy pronouncements from the platforms of the major political parties to positively transform the Barbadian economy or society, the UPP says it is called to provide ideological leadership for Barbados.

Additionally, Eastmond reminded members that the development and growth of this new political party is an organic process which will take them through various challenging stages. (PR)
