Rally revving economy

The economy has benefited immensely from overseas participants in the Sol Rally Barbados, which has been a staple on the sporting calendar for the past 30 years.

Barbados Rally Club’s public relations officer Neil Barnard made the comments at a press briefing at Mahogany Ridge, St James, on Wednesday for the upcoming Sol Rally Barbados and Flow King Of The Hill events.

“We quantify it every year and we do so for our partners as well as for the club itself. Last year, I think it was about $4.1 million injected into the overall economy as a result, not only the foreign entrants and the people that come with them, but also the amount of money that is generated on the island over the couple weeks as well,” Bernard said.

“This year again, we have these phenomenal extended teams coming from Europe, so where you have a team of driver and navigator coming to compete in the event itself, they will bring engineers and so on.” (RG)
