Allsopp-Cambridge joins Republic Bank

Well-known journalist, broadcaster, and corporate communications and marketing specialist, Sophia Allsopp-Cambridge, has joined Republic Bank (Barbados), as the new Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communications.

The appointment in May this year, followed the departure of the Bank’s long serving Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Deborah Stoute.

In an official introduction, Republic Bank’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Anthony Clerk, said it was a pleasure for him to welcome such a consummate professional to the Republic Bank family. He noted her over 20 years’ experience in the field of marketing and communications and qualifications including a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of London, Goldsmiths’ College, would be a significant asset to the Republic Bank team.

Allsopp-Cambridge has previously served in several senior positions in broadcasting, marketing and corporate communications, and established herself as an industry leading professional during a career spanning several decades.

She most recently served briefly as Manager, Corporate Affairs with AB InBev, the parent company of Banks Holdings Limited (BHL). That followed an unbroken 16 years as a Communications Specialist with the BHL Group, 14 of which were spent as Corporate Communications Manager. 

Allsopp-Cambridge is well known as a vibrant communicator, corporate affairs and corporate social responsibility manager. She has extensive experience in all aspects of communications including stakeholder relationship management, internal and external public relations, image and reputation management, marketing and investor communications, media production and on-air presentation. 

Her journalistic career began at the Nation Publishing Company in 1991, before she joined the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as a Freelance Reporter. She would go on to become one of television’s best known voices working as a News Anchor for both the CBC and Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU). Allsopp-Cambridge has also worked internationally with UK based media organisations including the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC); Guardian Newspaper UK; CNN (London Bureau, News Desk); and ITN On-Line  – National Election Website Reporter.

In other career achievements, she was the Television Producer of Wake-Up Caribbean, a breakfast talk show for Caribbean Media House; worked in the advertising industry for McCann-Erickson world Group as a Public Relations/Account Executive; and has tutored in Public Relations with the University of the West Indies (UWI) School of Continuing Studies.

Allsopp-Cambridge holds an International Baccalaureate Diploma from the Vienna International School; a Bachelor of Arts in English (Honours) from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill; and a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of London, Goldsmiths’ College, UK.

She has also completed several professional development courses including Business Law with the Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity (BIMAP); and a variety of public relations and communications professional courses with organisations including The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR); the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA); and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

She holds membership with all three professional organisations and is a former president of IABC Barbados.  (PR/SAT)
