IT WAS NEVER Gregory Brathwaite’s intention to become an umpire, far less an international umpire. But as fate would have it, the profession chose him rather than he chose it.
And the highlight of his career to date was his appointment to officiate in the ICC Women’s World Cup final at Lord’s two weeks ago.
“If I could have written the script of my appearance at Lord’s, I don’t think I could have written it in a way that my appearance there would be on the field and standing in a World Cup final,” the 47-year-old Barbadian told SUNSPORT. “When God writes a script, it rolls out the way He wants it to.”
Pressed for two words to describe the experience, he used enjoyable and character building. (RA)
