Jonathan Carter turned in a telling allround performance as title holders Sagicor UWI totally outclassed Ince Transport MTW to complete a comprehensive six-wicket win with more than 27 overs remaining in their third series Sagicor Super50 cricket match yesterday.
Carter, the seventh bowler employed by UWI captain Carlos Brathwaite, undermined the visitors’ batting by grabbing the last five wickets for 11 runs in a devastating 4.2-over spell of medium pace to send them crashing to 127 all out from  39.2 overs.
In reply, UWI lost openers Anthony Alleyne and Simon Naitram for eight runs within the first three overs but Carter, who batted at number four, swiftly retrieved the situation smacking three fours and two sixes in making 49 off 52 balls to lead the hosts to 128 for four off 22.1 overs.
MTW, who were invited to bat when play commenced just five minutes late, started steadily, going past 50 with only two wickets down.
Three batsmen, including opening bat Nicholas Clarke (24) fell for nine runs before Curtis Green (27) and Ariel Forde posted the innings’ best partnership – 31 for the sixth wicket.
Carter bowled both batsmen to set off a final collapse as the last five wickets tumbled for 25 runs.
New ball bowlers Fabian Cox and Lamar Clarke gave the visitors early hope with the wickets of Alleyne and Naitram respectively before Carter, backed up by fellow all-rounder Steven Jacobs orchestrated UWI’s recovery.
Jacobs continued where Carter left off, belting a four and three sixes to be 44 not out while Kyle Corbin hoisted off-spinner Kevin Gittens for a six over squareleg to finish the match.
