A senior police officer is calling on authoritities to revamp various programmes designed to help eradicate the scourge of illegal drugs.
Head of the Drug Squad, Senior Superintendent Grafton Phillips, says there’s an abundance of evidence that the programmes were not achieving the desired results.
His comments followed Wednesday night’s detention of 20 passengers aboard a Caribbean Airways flight from Jamaica on suspicion of ingesting marijuana to be smuggled into the island.
Following x-rays taken at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) yesterday, eight Jamaicans and two Barbadian men were found to be carrying a quantity of ganja in their stomachs.
