Gwyneth Squires copped the prize for best overall Grand Kadooment Band in the large category this year.
In results released by the National Cultural Foundation, Squires took the top prize, followed by Avery Hackett of Krave The Band and Ryan Austin of Zulu International.
Squires was also best Festival designer based on both concepts for this year’s Grand Kadooment and Junior Kadooment. She said she knew she had a win in the bag.
“I’m elated! I know I would’ve done it, because I went and see all of the bands and I see the theme excellence. It’s a theme that took me 10 months to pick. All of a sudden I came up with it, and I knew I had to be there,” Squires said confidently.
Betty West took the top prize among the small bands, ahead of Quincy Jones (Youth Explosion) and Trevor Chase of Ooutrage. Didi Winston was named Flagperson of the Year.
