Fadda Fox: Plenty Ducking

Fadda Fox will not be ducking from work anytime soon.

In fact, the artiste will be busier than ever this year performing his popular Crop Over 2014 song Ducking during the Trinidad Carnival.

Having released his official music video for the popular song on YouTube on January 1, it already had more than 61 000 views at the time of writing. He said that after he did not finish a planned video for the 2013 hit song Boat, he promised himself he would “be doing videos from 2014 onward”.

“My team Jonathan Reid, Dwayne Thomas, and Mario Turton decided to get together and do this. We decided who we were going to use in the video, which venue, we sat down, and we had some brilliant ideas. I know people are liking it because on the first day of releasing the video, it hit 10 000 views,” Fadda Fox told WEEKEND BUZZ.

“Since Crop Over it’s been looking up. I have been doing lots of gigs overseas. I must say the song has taken off so well overseas it was one of the biggest songs of the Miami Carnival, Labour Day and right now I’m getting lots of calls from the people in Britain about the song and in Trinidad it’s leading on some charts,” he added.

The artiste, real name Nicholas Sealy, said that he did not expect Ducking to do so well outside of the Caribbean and was “taken by surprise”.

“After seeing it do so well in Miami Carnival and having so many requests for it, I then felt it would have triggered into the Trini circle. It is something that Trinis can relate to and I would say that the lyrics, the vibes, lean a bit more to the Trinis than to Barbados,” he said, pointing out that SCORCH Duck Work fete in Trinidad has a no-cameras allowed policy.

He will be making the rounds on the party scene for the annual event billed as the “greatest show on earth” with 13 gigs to date.

“I was there last Saturday for the kick-start fete, TRIBE I.C.E, that’s the major gig to start the carnival. From there onward it’s pretty hectic. For about three weeks or so I’ll be based in Trinidad. More people are calling as well so things are looking good for carnival for sure. I also just released a collaboration, Doh Feel No Way with Nadia Batson,” Fox stated.

He said the initial plan was to release two more songs for carnival but his team decided to “hold them back for now” and let Ducking “run its path”.  But a remix of Ducking should be released in about two weeks and after that more tracks would be released for other carnivals.

“I want to touch the Virgin Islands Carnival and there’s a new carnival started in Germany that is building very well. Some people from over there have been reaching out to me so I guess the next step is to do a Britain tour for 2015. My management team is trying to put that together right now so we can do Notting Hill and a few other carnivals on that circuit.

“I have something to release for St Vincent’s Carnival, a collaboration with Problem Child. I was working on something for Grenada with Tallpree so I’ve been reaching out and we’re getting busy,” he said.

For Crop Over this year, Fox said he already has about four songs in the works already including collaborations with other artistes and no, he does not feel pressured to produce another hit.

“It is the public and the fans who determine if a song will be a hit . . . . All you can do is put your best foot forward and your most into it and leave it up to the public. I’m always trying to compete with myself with music because 2013 was with BoBo and myself and that did well.

“I’m not one to take on what people are saying . . . . I don’t take on that stress. At the end of the day it’s all about music, it’s all about the spirit, it’s all about the vibe. Whenever I go into the studio I give 150 per cent of my effort along with the producers and whatever we come up with, I’m satisfied.

“My aim is to have songs that are not just played in Barbados. There are some artistes who are comfortable with that, they feel good that their songs stay here and pumping hard every year but when you go outside of Barbados you hardly hear the song. I’m trying to find a niche where I can get into every market, something that people can relate to and enjoy themselves,” he told WEEKEND BUZZ.

Before he heads off to Trinidad he disclosed he is working “on a track based on make-up stains and lipstick stains” but that’s all he would say.

“We have lots of stuff in the works so then we’ll be deciding which we’re going to release and which we’re going to keep back. Things are looking up”, he said cheerfully. (Green Bananas Media)
