DESPITE A RECORD INCREASE in visitors to Barbados, luxury hotels are not benefiting from the surge. Neither are the higher arrival numbers being reflected in increased visitor spend.
These are the concerns of outgoing chairman of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), Sunil Chatrani.
In his final address as chairman, Chatrani told the association’s annual general meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday that an aggressive plan of action must be formulated to tackle the situation.
He was particularly worried about the performance of the luxury sector which represents 20 per cent of the tourism industry, and whose revenue accounts for about 75 per cent of tourism earnings. (GC)
