Industrial action as well as persistent cane fires have put a dent in this year’s sugar cane yield.
The strike at Portvale Factory has ended but stakeholders still have to contend with the fires, which have not stopped some cane-cutters from setting about their task.
Such was the case at Warleigh Plantation in St Peter where a number of workers were busy yesterday getting the canes ready for transport to the factory in order to salvage the rest of the crop.
