Parkinson and St George opt out

THEY HAVE produced arguably West Indies’ best ever bowler, Malcolm Marshall, but for the second straight year Parkinson Memorial won’t be playing in the Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) Secondary Schools’ Under-15 Competition starting tomorrow.

Another secondary school, St George, which like Parkinson also did not play in the recently ended Everton Weekes Under-13 Tournament, have also decided not to participate in the annual competition.

When contacted yesterday, new principal Ian Holder explained that a decision was taken to not enter Parkinson due to the prolonged illness of long-standing cricket coach Arthur Crawford, who had been on medical leave for an extended period.

“At the time of the BCA’s request for schools to indicate their participation, our cricket coach would’ve had health challenges which did not permit him to carry out his physical education duties,” Holder told SUNSPORT. (EZS)
