Gems gain Commonwealth spot

THE BAJAN Gems are on the rise on the world’s netball stage with the latest International Netball Federation rankings moving Barbados up one spot to 11th, and a guaranteed place at next April’s Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Australia.

Wins against Jamaica, who have remained in their fourth position and against Trinidad and Tobago, who have dropped below the Gems to 13th, pushed Barbados up the rankings.

Ironically, the Gems are one position below Northern Ireland, who had beaten Barbados twice in the subsequent Quad Series involving the hosts Northern Ireland, Singapore and Ireland.

With a rating of 100, Barbados are one shy of Northern Ireland. (KB)
