He was addressing the audience at the Grazettes Primary School on Thursday at the graduation ceremony held at the Christ the King Anglican Church, Rock Dundo, St Michael.
While the moral of the story was not forthcoming he told the students to ask their parents when they got home what the moral of the story is it certainly left the audience hanging on his words to come. "... This is but a step in your education, one step in your growth," he told the graduating class.
He urged them to ask themselves what they were living for and why they were here. "You must always have some values, some goal, an objective," he said.
The former minister of education said despite what some people might think there was a lot of talent around Barbados. "There is talent in our churches, there is talent in our schools, there is talent in our institutions and there is talent in our political parties," he said, noting both the Barbados Labour Party and the Democratic Labour Party had talent.
He said what was in short supply in the country was purpose.
Sir Lloyd praised the work of the organisation of primary school principals and the Barbados Union of Teachers for their work "in seeking to improve the conditions and enhance the educational process at the primary school level".
