FOR THE SECOND straight week, Barbadian Cher King was the hockey queen at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) in the United States, copping the Atlantic 10 field hockey Co-Rookie-of-the-Week award.
King, a freshman forward, who was part of Barbados' bronze medal winning team at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Santo Domingo this year, shared the honour with Lindsey Conrad of Richmond University.
The Pickwick player scored two goals, including the game winner in overtime, and also had an assist in UMass' amazing 4-3 come-from-behind victory over La Salle on Sunday.
UMass trailed 3-0 at half-time but rebounded in the second half and overtime with a double strike from King, who also represented Barbados at the Commonwealth Games in Australia, and sophomore Lauren Gillespie, who moved her tally to a team-high 12 goals.
The University of Massachusetts also defeated West Chester 2-1 on Friday to have a perfect weekend in the two games in Philadelphia. (EZS)
