Lewis dashes Legends hopes

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada A dramatic last over from seamer Chris Lewis spurred the England Masters to a dramatic nine-run victory over the West Indies Legends in the second Twenty20 match of the Grenada Cricket Classic at the National Stadium Saturday.
Lewis, bowling a tight line and length, grabbed two wickets and conceded only two runs in a cliffhanger to deprive West Indies, after wicketkeeper batman Junior Murray revived the home side's hopes of pulling off victory in the see-sawed encounter.
West Indies ended on 128 for seven after restricting the Englishmen to 137 for six from their allotted overs.
In pursuit of their target, they slumped to 95 for five after opener Gordon Greenidge was stumped by Paul Nixon for 20 and fellow opener Desmond Haynes was caught at cover for 15.
An aggressive unbeaten topscore of 30 from Junior Murray, however, brought West Indies back into contention in front a vocal home crowd. He smashed one six and two fours, leaving the regional side requiring 12 runs from the last over.
But Guyanese-born Lewis uprooted the stumps of legendary former West Indies captain Sir Vivian Richards and then had Jimmy Adams caught at the cover boundary, in successive deliveries as he finished with two for 17.
John Emburey, the former England off-spinner, grabbed two for 21 runs from four overs.
Murray shared the Man-Of-The-Match award with Derek Randall who topscored for England and fell just four runs short of what was shaping up to be an impressive half-century. (CMC)
