BCC head: Security in place for safety of college community
Published on: 10/9/07.
PRINCIPAL OF THE BARBADOS COMMUNITY COLLEGE Dr Gladstone Best is assuring the public that the institution is committed to providing a safe environment there.
In a Press release yesterday, Best said the new security measure "follows a few incidents which occurred on the college premises that affected the safety of students and staff. The incidents involved intruders assaulting members of the college community on the grounds or in the college's car park".
He said the administration "believes that we can maximise the learning and research at the college if we provide a safe and secure environment for members of our community to conduct their business".
The college has implemented measures to boost the security at the compound.
These include the enhancement of lighting in the car parks, roadways and buildings; introduction of security guards at the main college gates; the increase in the frequency of patrols of security guards, the introduction of a policy where students and staff must show identification on entry to the college and wear their cards while on the premises; and the strict regulation of the institution's car parks.
Best noted that the college was also seeking to acquire a security vehicle as well as to strengthen the institution's perimeter fences. Additionally, visitors to the college would also be required to state their business and be issued with a visitor pass on entry to the compound. (BGIS)
